I love to take photos of beautiful young women. Something about capturing the excitement, anticipation, hopes and dreams of a gorgeous girl brings me a great deal of happiness. I had the honor and privilege of photographing four such young women a few months back. All four are recent graduates of Cal State Long Beach with plans of becoming teachers. I met them while studying abroad in Ireland and quickly bonded with these warm, generous girls.

We spent the day taking pictures around our alma mater and then later the beach. We laughed, shared our lives, and had a wonderful time. I absolutely love spending time with people who radiate goodness, and genuine kindness. Thank you ladies for letting me document a beautiful time in your lives. I can't wait to see all the amazing things you are going to accomplish!

Baby Jackson

We moved into our apartment 4 days before he was born. We had only met his parents, our new next door neighbors, briefly but I was already excited for them. I remember noticing that they had been gone for a few days and watchfully waited to see them come home with their new little one. Who would have known that baby Jackson would be born exactly one year before my due date, November 5th.

Its been a joy having this sweet little boy live next door to us. He has been a window into what we will be experiencing next year as we welcome Nicholas Patrick into our family. Jackson is a handsome, happy, sweet little boy and I pray that our little boy will be just as sweet!

I'm a pretty humble person. Not one to brag or seek the attention of others. But without sounding too self righteous... these following photos have to be some of the most beautiful photos I have ever seen.

To me this session was a lesson in light. San Luis Obispo, more specifically Los Osos, CA has to have the most gorgeous light I have ever seen. The air is clear and the natural landscapes dominates the view. Its very untouched and therefore very beautiful. I learned so much about my style preferences as a photographer. The magic of both open shade and back diffused light. So different yet equally stunning.

This location set the scene for a photo shoot with my dear cousin Heather. She agreed to shoot with me while up in Los Osos visiting our Grandma. It couldn't have been better. He drove around the town for hours finding hidden gems of locations. It's so nice to have the luxury to take your time, really think through the shots and get EXACTLY what you want. When its your cousin you are shooting you don't feel too bad making her wait.

And making her wait is something I have definitely done. She's waited a long time for these photos from me but I have to say I think it was worth the wait. Heather, you are stunning and I hope you enjoy these as much as I do. They really are my favorite photos I have taken to date. You are a wonderful model and an even better cousin. I'm so glad we got to spend this time together creating beautiful images. I love you, Heather.

We started off in a beautiful and sunny grass field. I usually hate shooting in grass because I think it often comes across as tacky and unnaturally green... but not this grass. This is that luxurious, long, magical grass that you just want to roll around it. It couldn't be prettier.

And this tree! Gnarly in the best possible way.

I love the juxtaposition of her creamy smooth skin against the harsh crevasses of the tree.

Billy's 1st Birthday

This post will most likely make non dog lovers puke. All others, enjoy!

We've been counting down to April 21st for months now. The momentous day that our little puppy boy would turn one year old. Billy has been a part of our family since the very start! 8 days after our wedding Billy joined our newly established family and has brought us incredible joy ever since.

As most of you know, this November our family will be growing again by one new member. Not the fury type this time but an actual flesh of our flesh baby girl or boy. Clearly our world will change dramatically and that means sweet little Billy will have to take a bit of a backseat. That's why we wanted to really celebrate his birthday this year because who knows what life will be like next April 21st.

Plus, he deserves to have a day devoted entirely to his happiness. We watched Lady and the Tramp as a family- which by the way is a perfect movie considering that in the movie Jim Dear and Darling as a couple love Lady tremendously but then things change once the baby comes. In the end they still love Lady very much and I know that will be the case for us as well.

After the movie we sang happy birthday to Billy and let him devour a mini angel food cake with strawberries and whipped cream. He was in doggy heaven. As for his gift we gave him a gnarly meaty bone which he completely enjoyed. He was a happy boy all day. Most of all he loved all the attention we showered upon him. He is one loved little pup.

Happy Birthday sweet boy. Thank you for bringing so much joy into our lives!

I made two videos to commemorate the day. One is of his actual birthday celebration and the other is a compilation of photos from his first year of life. I'm fully aware that aside from us and my parents no one will appreciate these videos very much but for the purposes of posterity its important to remember this time in our lives with our only sweet baby boy.

We met at the Jasmine Star Workshop last February. Her husband Matt joined her to pose for the 20 photographers attending the workshop. We didn't have a chance to talk at the event but I could tell she was the type of person that just oozed sweetness and kindness.

After I posted the images from the Workshop, I received a lovely email from Matt. He complimented my photos and asked if I would be interested in working with Jodi again. Jodi is an up and coming model as well as a makeup artist and just like me needed to build up her portfolio. I jumped at the opportunity to shoot this beautiful girl again. She's everything I want in a client: a warm, engaging, beautiful, and confident young woman.

This shoot was an absolute joy for me. Both of our husbands joined us for the shoot nearby in Leucadia. After we wrapped we indulged in sushi and great conversation. It's a blessing to meet a couple so in tune with our own beliefs and tastes.

Jodi and Matt, thank you again for this opportunity. Both of you are beautiful both inside and out. Jeremy and I are now thrilled to call you friends and look forward to spending more time with you soon.

Lauren and Brad: Engaged

As we prepared for the shoot I asked them; "how comfortable are you with PDA?" Ya know, public displays of affection. Personally my husband and I are big PDA participants and I love it when I get to shoot people who are too. The way I look at it is, you are only young and in love once in your life. There is a very small window of time where people will gladly and happily enjoy pictures of you and your significant other expressing your love in a physical way. Might as well celebrate your love for all the world to see!

Brad told me that on a scale of 1-10 he was a 4. Oh no! I thought. But I hoped for the best and headed out. Well wouldn't you know that Brad's 4 turned into at least an 8 or a 9 as soon as we started shooting. I guess he just couldn't help it once we got in the moment. I don't blame him. Lauren did look stunning and they are very in love.

So as it turned out we got some beautiful shots of this lovely couple that clearly show how deeply and passionately they feel for each other.

Lauren and Brad, I'm so excited for your wedding in June. I love the way these photos came out and I can't wait to capture your wedding day!

Suzie: Anytime

For her 21st birthday I gave Suzie a card that had this quote inscribed on the front. It's so perfect for her, not because she doesn't follow her dreams and needs the motivation but because she is a first class dream chaser to the highest extent.

We went to high school together and while I was dreaming of marriage and family, Suzie was dreaming of Paris, conversing in French to perfection, and experiencing the type of foreign love affair that movies are made of. While I adored our high school and felt comfort in the protection of those Catholic all-girls school halls she was dying to be set free into the "real world" and live out all she had imagined.

A lot of high school kids have dreams like Suzie though, but seldom have the courage, strength and intelligence to make their dreams come true. Not my Suzie... after years of studying the language she loves, she boarded a plane headed to Paris, France to live and breath in the city of her dreams. She studied, made friends, had adventures, spoke the language to the locals of perhaps even had that foreign love affair, although I'll never tell ;) But the point is, she did it. She lived the life she imagined.

Now a few years later and armed with a double degree in communications and French, Suzie will return to Paris again this fall to continue the dream she imagined. How blessed am I to have a friend like this? One so capable and incredible. I'm so proud of the life she leads and pray every day that God grants her all she deserves.

So Suzie, enjoy these photos that I feel capture everything I just described: a beautiful young woman on the cusp of a new adventure, living the life she always imagined.

Her boyfriend pointed me out at our college orientation. "You should be friends with the girl in the big hat." I love big hats and on this particular day 5 years ago I was wearing one of my biggest and best Breakfast at Tiffany's inspired hat I owned. As it turned out we also were in the same math and honors english class as well. As fate would have it, we became friends.

I was attracted to her wit, her sarcasm, her intelligence. We both had high school sweethearts that we loved with all our hearts. We discussed the latest Dr. Laura show and talked about the life we envisioned for ourselves. She was everything I ever dreamed of in a college friend. She was my first adult friend that didn't know me when I had braces and I liked it like that. We shared a very special time in our lives: leaving home, starting college and dreaming of our someday life.

I'm so proud to have this girl as my friend all these years later. We have both had so many of those dreams come true already and I know 2010 is going to be a big year for her. She's a talented writer, devoted girl friend and most important to me a terrific friend.

I'm known for making huge exaggerative, definitive statements that can never be proven.

If something is taking a few minutes longer than I think it should, you'll hear me saying, "I've been waiting for 8 million minutes." Yes, million.

I live in the BEST place in the entire world, California. There is no arguing other places standing in the world. I live in the BEST.

I course, I can't be blamed for this ridiculous form of communicating how much passion I have for something. You can thank my dad for that one.

My entire life I have been: the best daughter that has ever been and will ever be. And that he loves me more than any father ever has or ever will love his daughter.

This type of phrasing can rub off on a person and it definitely has on me.

My friends call me out on it but in the end, I'll never change because no one will ever have to question how I feel about something. I definitively and exaggeratively always let you know.

SoCal Wedding Shootout: Pasadena, California Part 2

The most valuable part of this great experience was being able to photograph most of the parts of the wedding day. From getting ready, bridal portraits, details shots, and the ceremony itself. This entire event was the culmination of many vendors working together to create a beautiful day. SoCal Wedding Shootout: Pasadena, California

To say I'm a dreamer is an understatement. But not the kind of head in the clouds, lack of common sense, out of touch with reality dreamer. I dream of someday holding a child in my arms. I dream of owning a home to call our own filled with warm memories and special touches. I dream of traveling the world and studying the history of fascinating places. Finally, I have a glorious dream to create a sustainable and successful wedding photography business.

But like I said I'm practical, that house, and travel plans won't happen without thoughtful planning and saving and likewise this business won't flourish without considerable attention given to my development not only as a business woman but as a photographer. I don't want to just talk pictures for pictures sake. I want to make an impact and be known for my abilities. So, I'm taking the time and financial investment in my business by attending workshops and recently an all day wedding shootout in Pasadena, CA.

The shootout was an excellent way to practice my craft and learn how to deal with situations that are difficult. There were 6 different stations: Engagement portraits, Getting ready shots, details, bridal portraits, a faux ceremony, and finally bride and groom portraits. Along with a group of around 10 other photographers I was able to get some really beautiful shots of some gorgeous models. All the couples were real married couples so the love between them is real and truly beautiful.

To start off today, here are the engagement and bride and groom portraits. Check back later in the week for the rest of the pictures.

Here we have a lovely couple Ashley and Sean who modeled the couple shots for us. I LOVE working with these two. The way they looked at each other was pure romance, chemistry, and attraction. It was beautiful. They weren't shy or bashful with displaying their love in front of several cameras. They were confident in themselves and their love and for that I am very grateful. These are some of my favorite images from their shoot.

Special thanks goes to the Frenzel's for being beautiful models for this engagement shoot. I met this couple at a Smug Mug meeting a few months back and was immediately taken by their kindness and love for each other. I hope to get to know them more in the future.

I love when a couple's love is so obvious and overwhelming so much so that everyone around them feels happy and glad to be alive. I feel so blessed to be able to document this profound experience in our lives.

Jodi and Matt: Jasmine Star Workshop

I sat in a room with 19 photographers eagerly taking in all that our leader had to say. Most are at a very similar place in their careers- just starting out or within the first year of business so you can imagine how happy we were to take in all that this lady had to say.

Although I could have felt intimated or out of place because I don't have everything together yet, I amazingly felt completely at home amongst this group. I feel myself changing from a girl fresh out of college and recently married with nothing but a dream of becoming a successful wedding photographer to a confident woman eager and prepared to become not only a great photographer but a savvy business woman as well. My approach is changing from just wanting to take pictures to wanting to create a sustainable and profitable businesses. I kinda feel like I'm living the American dream: chasing dreams, growing in business and finding success and fulfillment in my life.

And I must say I feel like I'm going about it the right way. Seeking the advice of those who clearly know more than me, proceeding with caution, acting deliberately, and above all confidently moving forward toward long term goals rather than being stuck in the silliness of temporary feats.

Many people have influenced this change in me but Jasmine Star certainly deserves a whole lot of credit. I've had some bad experiences with successful photographers making me feel small and stupid but Jasmine has done just the opposite. Her confidence radiates a room as soon as she walks in, not in an intimidating "hey look at me" way but in an inspiring, "that girl has got it going on and I want to be her" way.

I learned so much at this workshop about the business, about photography, about creating a life that I want to lead. God has given me a gift and I intend to hone my skills, thoughtfully move forward and ultimately serve people through photography.

Doesn't that just sound like the best job on earth? I want to be a part of people's weddings, and families, and events in their life that all are an expression of love and care.

At the workshop I got a chance to do just that with a couple that modeled for our shoot, Jodi and Matt. A real life couple, very in love and full of the joy of life! What an honor it was to take your picture Jodi and Matt. I hope you feel your love in these images.

Jodi is an up and coming model and she did a beautiful job paying homage to my favorite woman of all time, Audrey Hepburn. Thanks to All Made Up for accentuate her already gorgeous face.

I love it when men look at their woman with love and admiration. It gets me every time.

These next two pay respects to my dad and uncle who would always take pictures sideways with little respect for the horizon line. Truth be told there were 20 photographers in about an 8 foot space so I had to strech to get any shot so some turned out lopsided. But you know, some mishaps are really just works of divine intervention because I adore these two and I think my dad will too.

Valentines Day 2010

We have been together for coming up on 6 years this April. So one would assume that we have shared 6 Valentines Days together. But that is definitely not the case. My Jeremy was stationed on the east coast for most of those years and consequently we have only shared one V day together. It was sweet but we were younger and not married and inexperienced.

So you can imagine our joy to spend this year together. We exchanged pretty elaborate gifts this year, maybe just to make up for the years passed. I received a flip video camera. Something I've been hinting at for months now. He told me I would get it for my birthday in June. That didn't sit so well with me but I got over it because its not like its THAT necessary. But boy oh boy did he come though! Here's a little video I made of the day.

I love it for a million reasons but mainly because its a little peak into our life at this very moment. Things will never be this way again. We've been so blessed with 7 months now as husband and wife with our puppy. Life is simple. We are in love and all is right in the world.

Today I spent the day becoming a better photographer. I had the extreme blessing of attending a Jasmine Star Workshop.

My head is spinning right now with ideas and inspiration and that is wonderful but truly the best thing that came of this day was an opportunity to reflect on who I am and the goals and dreams I have for my business.

My friend Ashleigh said it best when she pointed out that Jasmine is incredibly self aware. Everything she does for her business has meaning and is deliberate.

Above all else I strive to create a thoughtful and deliberate business. Today I was blessed with an entire day to reflect and plan for a future I'm sure is going to be filled with even more abundant blessings.

Jasmine and JD, it was an incredible honor to be able to meet you. You both are what I call "good people" down to your very core. I left this evening excited but admittedly overwhelmed by the prospect of the business I dream to create. Thank you for giving me that mixture of confidence to go forward but also a little bit of fear that I know will push me beyond my comfort zone and into a place of true fulfillment.

Today was a blessing through and through. Can't wait to share with you all the images and details from this day. But I had to write about my feelings while they were fresh in my heart.

Weekly posts that have cute alliterations stink.

I'm abandoning the entire idea!

I mean the best part of not being in college anymore is that there aren't any deadlines and here I am forcing myself to be a slave to a weekly post narrowly defined by a silly alliteration. I refuse to force myself to get things done within a designated time slot!

I've been sitting here writing my Friday Film post all day and now here it is technically Saturday morning and no post has arrived.

So to hell with it all. I don't want to just blog something on Mondays and Fridays because I feel obligated. You know what will happen? I'll write a bunch of crapola that I'll probably regret the next day.

Jasmine Star has her Kisses and Disses and others have repetitive themed posts that aren't designated for a particular day of the week. That's the way to do it!

So that's what I'm gonna do!

Meanwhile, I really am working on that film post. It's going to be good. Gotta work on being pithy though, I have WAY too much to say. And lets be honest, my mom and dad are pretty much the only ones who will think it is God's gift to writing anyway.

Oh my, dear blog, you do cause a whole lotta stressful, guilt inducing feelings on my life. You really are like a college assignment to me. I gotta change that attitude because that stinks.

Friday Films

I know what you’re thinking, again with the corny alliterations! Another weekly post that has little to do with photography. And I can see your point to some extent but I’m really excited about the possibilities of this portion of my blog.

I have begun to brand myself as a business and part of that process is exploring the unique aspects of my life that have influences and informed the way I see the world. Undoubtedly movies have played a large role in defining my style and sensibility. I love to give credit where credit is due, when I know someone has taken especially good care of me, I like to thank them, tell them I love them, and then shout it from the roof tops what a great thing this person has done. I see this weekly post as essentially the same thing as thanking a friend for their generosity or a teacher for their guidance. The movies I will explore have fundamentally shaped me in ways that are hard to explain, although I will try! I want to take a moment to praise and even thank these amazing films that have impacted my heart and soul. You may not agree with my assessments or more likely you probably haven’t even heard of most of these films but I feel like this is an excellent way of explaining to my peers and future clients just what makes me tick and inspires me especially in photography.

The walls of my office are lined with movie posters. I started this collection a few years back with my favorite movie of all time, Breakfast At Tiffany’s and it evolved from there. These movies share several similarities. Some are musicals, many star Audrey Hepburn, etc. but they all share one distinct feature: all our at least 45 years old.

My love for old movies started out not long after my birth with my wonderful parents who had the wisdom to look back to the movies of their parent’s generation and their own childhood as the movies they would show their daughter. Every Saturday we would walk to the public library and pick out one of these magical movies to watch. They captivated me in every way from the glamorous and graceful women to the dashing and decent men.

The innocence of the era, the style, the look speaks to me. The romantic stories of true love mixed with tasteful passion. Oh my goodness, they knew how to make movie during the 40s, 50s, and into the 60s. The women dressed impeccably, spoke with dignity and carried themselves with endless amounts of grace and class. The men were strong, masculine, and dignified. The music! Oh the music! In my opinion, no music before or after can begin to compare to those orchestrations, harmonies, and silly sweet songs.

I hope you’ll come along with me and explore the films that have shaped my core. They won’t mean the same thing to you as they do to me but maybe my posts will inspire you enough to head to your own public library and check out these amazing movies from a time long ago.

It’s so important to be aware of the things that shape you whether self consciously or not and when you know something has impacted you positively, why not share it with the world so that others might reap the benefits as well.

Mishmash Monday

Yep, I'm going there... I'm succumbing to corny weekly blog posts that have silly alliteration names. I will admit that I love alliterations, though. When I was a kid my dad and mom would make me journal about our vacations and each day I had to use at least one alliteration and one simile or metaphor. So there were a lot of "marvelous mountains" and "fantastic foods" in my childhood writing. That's what you get with a teacher mother who makes you spend your whole vacation journaling!

This weekend was wonderful. My best friend Laura and her husband Bobby came for dinner. We played scrabble- which incidentally is surprisingly fun yet predictably time consuming. Still, spending time with friends who value me as much as I value them is my favorite thing to do. I love my Laura. Jeremy made them pork chops stuffed with cheese, spinach, garlic, and sun-dried tomatoes. I made garlic mashed potatoes and roasted asparagus. Not our favorite meal but it looked elegant and it seems to me thats half the battle.

Sunday I had a darling dinner with some San Diego photographers in La Jolla. Thank you Nicole for inviting me. I was honored to spend time with all of you and wish you the best for your business now and forever. Check out their links below. All four of them are amazing ladies!

1. Late nights at Barnes and Noble. I love strolling through the isles of books with my husband and Americano. We love flipping through photography books and talking through the images and what we like and don't like. I love my husband so much

2. Talks with dear old Dad. No one believes in me like he does. So much of me is of him and I love him very much.

3. Finally, night time photoshoots with Jeremy by the lamp post near our home. I love having some one to experiment with and more importantly someone to love.

My backyard

Ok so this isn't exactly my backyard but this is beautiful Carlsbad, CA. I can't believe I liv in such a beautiful place.

A year ago right about now Jeremy got his orders that he would be stationed in San Diego. I was in Ireland at the time and probably pretty homesick and so I reacted pretty dramatically- which might I add isn't uncommon for me, I'd have to admit. I remember crying and thinking that San Diego was a full two hours away from our families and that I would never see anyone and I would be miserable!

How pathetic was that! I was seriously complaining about living in one of the most beautiful spots this state has to offer. Everyone tried to convince me that I was wrong and that I would love living that far away from family because we could have our own space to be newlyweds together without that constant family interference. I didn't buy it- I love our families and I wanted to live right down the street from them like I had my entire life.

But then my dad drove me down to Carlsbad... I remember we got off on La Costa and as soon as we made that left turn off the freeway I knew this place was magical. The rolling hills, the lagoon, the beach just seconds away- this was going to be alright!

Now a year later, I thank God for putting us in Carlsbad. In case you are wondering- we see our families just about every week and nothing has really changed. Except we get to enjoy walks down by the lagoon and drink in the beauty that I now get to call my backyard.

San Luis Rey Mission, Oceanside, California

For the past six months of my life I have spent a majority of my time dreaming. Dreaming of having the opportunity to work as a wedding photographer, dreaming about building a business that is not only profitable but influential and life giving to the world, dreaming just about taking pictures of beautiful people in breathtaking locations.

I haven't gotten most of this accomplished yet. But one thing I do have are breathtaking locations surrounding me here in Southern California. Now to only have beautiful in love people to stand in front of these places and I'll be well on my way.

For now I will be content with having the opportunity to photograph locations that some day I will bring my future clients to and fulfill some of this dreams I've been thinking of.

Here for your viewing pleasure is San Luis Rey Mission in Oceanside. It seems like a TON of people shoot at San Juan Capistrano Mission but this one goes fairly untouched. Now don't everyone go out there and start shooting here. I called it first! Ya, like anyone is actually reading this anyway who is going to go steal this little gem from me but you never know. It's perfect in so many ways.

Dad's Birthday

Today was my dad's birthday. Jeremy and I planned to cook him a dinner that was completely up his alley:

spaghetti on a bed of spinach leaves with lemon zest, lemon juice, capers, and raw garlic topped with a seared piece of salmon along with a stuffed tomato with bread crumbs, parmesan cheese, olives, garlic, onions, and parsley.

It was phenomenal. A big hit around the old Lander household. Jeremy gave him a beautiful American flag that was hung off of his former cutter the Reliance and I made him a card that had a picture of me singing happy birthday to him on his birthday twenty years ago exactly. I was two and he of course cried. I most certainly get my sentimental side from dear old dad.

I get so many things from my dad and he is so important in my life. He's one of my best friends, biggest fans, and constant source of support, encouragement, and wisdom. I love him more each day and I'm so glad he had a very special birthday.

A good time was had by all today but clearly no one was as happy as this little guy. My dad is not a fan of having his picture taken but Billy sure doesn't mind!

Ireland Revisited

Exactly one year ago my feet were planted firmly on the earth of Ireland. I can't believe an entire year has passed since this very special trip. I was in my last year of college and had the opportunity to study abroad during the winter break. My mother's father was Irish and I had always dreamed of visiting the country but figured it wasn't going to happen till later in my life. But with my parents generous support and an understanding fiance, the trip became a reality. Jeremy and I had planned to spend the month of January together but once this opportunity came along we both knew I had to go.

It was my first trip out of the country, my first trip all alone without family or friends so this was quite the big deal for me. But, as you can imagine, it was a life changing and irreplaceable event in my life that I will cherish forever. I compiled my favorite 40 images from the trip. I focused on the land and landmarks of Ireland primarily instead of the people on the trip with me because I wanted everyone to see how breath taking this country is.

I yearn to go back- the land changed my heart forever. I've always been a faith filled person but there was something about the tranquility and beauty of Ireland that confirmed God's existence to me in a way I have never experienced. The endless green hills, the impressive churches, the sweet and simple living people, the bitterly cold wind on your face, the tragic and triumphant history all work together to create a magic that will forever be with me.

I'm very proud of these pictures that document my visit to Ireland one year ago. I hope you feel what I feel when I look at them.

Christmas 2009

Christmas was perfect in every way. My first as a married woman, the traditions I'm used to had to be realigned to fit my new role, but all in all everything was flawless. Everything that should happen at Christmas did: Decorations were adorned and the house was filled with the soft light of the tree, friends gathered and laughed, family came together and expressed love, cookies warmed our bellies, gifts were exchanged and gratitude expressed, but most importantly Christ was praised and welcomed into the world and our hearts again.

As it always has been, Christmas changed and softened my heart for the better. Isn't it just perfect to have Christmas a week before the new year? Something about the season prepares your heart and head for upcoming year and all the dreams and plans that are on the horizon.

I love Christmas, I love my life, and I love these pictures from our first Christmas as husband and wife. I hope you all enjoy them.

Oh, the weather outside (was) frightful

I can't believe how much I love my dog. Sometimes I sit back and think about it and am amazed at the amount of love I have for this little ball of white fluff. I didn't expect it to be honest. I grew up with an AMAZING Dog named Baby and I love her very much. She's getting very old now, almost 15 and its getting near the end of her life. I love her and always have but the feeling is different towards my Billy boy. He's my baby- I'm the one who is solely in charge of taking care of this little puppy. Ok Jeremy helps, but I really feel responsible for him and thats a different type of love. And since he is my little boy and since it was raining cats and dogs last week (pun very intended) I of course decked him out in the appropriate outfit for the very blustery and raining day.

Isn't he to die for! Now I would like to say that he completely appreciated my attempts to keep him dry and warm but in reality he hated every second of it. He was having a hard day already, what with all the loud wind noises and rain falling on him during his morning pee so the last thing he wanted was to be stuck in a tight yellow rain slicker. But can you blame me! How flippin cute!

I tell Jeremy all the time that I can't imagine how much I'm going to love our future kids if I love my dog this much. But I don't need to worry about that for now because Billy is my only baby and I love him so much- especially dressed in a yellow slicker.

The Christmas Stocking

I am a traditional girl. A VERY traditional girl. Of course Christmas is the time of year that best brings out my need for traditions from my childhood and family. When I was born my Nana made me and my parents beautiful needlepoint stockings. Mom's is a patchwork quilt, Dad's has a Santa on it and mine was an angel- of course. Hey, I was the only granddaughter and very loved by everyone in my family. But that's not the point. The point is that I grew up with these amazing stockings. Handmade! Intricate! Long lasting and very beautiful. You can imagine my horror when I found out that not only had my dear husband never had one consistent stocking his whole life but also that whatever stocking he had was simply store bought! Oh the humanity!!! I told you, I'm a traditional girl and things have to be just so.

So that did it, I planned to make him his very own needlepoint stocking. Nana is not able to make them anymore because they are so intricate so I couldn't call on her. Plus, I'm a big girl now and I can do things like needlepointing! Right? Right! It took me over two months to complete along with sore hands and joints! I had no idea it would be this much work.

So may I present Jeremy's Christmas stocking!

I chose a Santa pattern as well since that is what my dad has and I wanted to make it like a dad/guy thing. If I have a son someday he'll be getting a Santa one too.

I didn't mean to but I chose like the most difficult pattern ever made! If you look at mine, which is lovely (thanks Nana) you can see its WAY simpler. Not that many colors or intricate background. I definitely could have chose a more beginners one for Jeremy but I was too far in before I realized it.

I couldn't be more proud! Look at it! Gorgeous little family. Now don't give me a hard time about my dog's. I only had time to make one this year but you can bet that next year Billy boy will have his own :)

A Very Late Thanksgiving Post

Alright so Christmas is a mere 15 days away but I'm just getting around to blogging my Thanksgiving photos. The problem is I have a bad case of the "no one gives a crap" syndrome. Blogging is hard for me because I just feel like no body cares to hear and see the minutia of my life. But I know I have to because that is the direction the photography business has gone and since my greatest desire in this whole wide world is to become a wedding photographer- I guess i better get on board.

Thanksgiving 2009- Our first as husband and wife. We spent it with Jeremy's family at his Aunt and Uncle's home in Agoura. I love that family and we had a wonderful day. I missed my parents a lot and I'm missing them more and more as Christmas approaches. I made my mom come decorate my house with me because it just didn't feel like Christmas doing it on my own. The transition from kid living at home with her parents to married adult woman is a little strange but of course wonderful. I've been able to spend so much time with my new husband over the past 5 months that we have been married. We were apart for 4 years before we were married so these past months have been a godsend. He is my best friend in the entire world and I love waking up next to him every day.

Jeremy, you are definitely what I am and will always be most thankful for.

Even though Thanksgiving is long over it still is nice to be reminded of that special day that turns our hearts to the blessings in our lives rather than our desires. It almost ironic that Thanksgiving is a month before Christmas because as soon as it is over our heads and attention are set on buying Christmas gifts and accumulating more things. When really, what do we really need. We are blessed beyond reason to live in this country and have wonderful people in our lives. Maybe we need a little more Thanksgiving reminders during this holiday season. In fact, tonight when Jeremy comes home I'm going to thank him for being the best husband on this earth and let him know how grateful I am for all he has given me.

Castillo Family

There are just some people who come into your life that you automatically want to earn their respect. Jen was definitely one of those people for me. My friend Brittany introduced me to her and I was taken aback by how well she was put together and what an amazing life she seemed to have. Three little girls, a handsome husband, a gorgeous home, and endless happiness. In short- my dream.

I have been very blessed to get to know the whole Castillo family over the past year. The three girls are some of the most bright, intelligent, polite and lovely children I have ever met. Families like the Castillos provide so much inspiration and guidance to me and the life I hope to make some day with Jeremy.

Jen gave me the great honor of taking their Christmas pictures this year and I couldn't be more thrilled. We went down to the Hotel Maya, my reception locations and took some lovely photos. I hope you enjoy them.

And again thank you Castillo family for trusting me and believing in my and providing me with a superb example of a thriving, happy, and beautiful family! Love you guys!

Giulietta is one!

There are few days more important in a new mommy's life than her daughter's first birthday. I know this because my dear friend Katie Morad was so terribly thrilled to be hosting Giulietta's ducky themed first birthday party. Rightfully so, she planned and dreamed of that day for months before the actual event... and as a result it was a picture perfect day.

The sun shined brightly as their family members and friends piled into the Morad's house to celebrate their precious baby G's big day. The cousin's played on the new playset, recently purchased by Giulietta's grandfather, while the adults enjoyed their Olive Garden catered food. Yummy Olive Garden bread sticks do it to me every time but then add this cute little face to my day and I'm one happy photographer:

Yooo-hooo! What's new?

Times they are a changing for me and my little family of three. We are on the cusp of making a life changing decision which would directly effect this dear blog of mine. I know I'm being all cryptic and mysterious but the truth is we haven't committed 100% to this decision yet so I don't really want to talk about it. Kinda jinx it, I guess. The point I'm trying to make is that you should stay tuned to what's in store for Molly Williams Photography.

In the meantime, here are some awesome images I have been working on lately.

I was BEYOND blessed to take some pictures of my cousin Mitch's new baby Cheyenne Nicole and here Mommy Cher'ee. I LOVED taking pictures of a newborn. I was so in love with her. At the end of the shoot we were taking pictures on the ground and she was getting hungry and started crying. Here mom got up to get her something to soothe her and I just felt so helpless! AHH! Crying baby! So I just picked her up and in the cutest moment of my life Cheyenne plopped her gummy mouth right on my cheek and started sucking away! She quickly realized no milk was coming out and started to cry again but that moment just killed me. It made me want to be a mommy SO badly. But for now I'll stick to Billy kisses :)

Anyways, here are three of the images from that day. I learned so much about shooting babies and I can't wait to try it out again. I must say I admire those who do it so well because it isn't easy. They don't smile on demand and they get hungry a lot. But in the end nothing beats a face like this one:

Also recently we celebrated my amazing friend Jessica's birthday. We surprised her with wine tasting at our favorite place in downtown Long Beach Vin De Pays Her husband Joshua is a musician and serenaded her and then she joined him for the last song. I seriously love these two. They are cooler than ice and I couldn't live without em. Happy birthday Jess!

And finally one of my favorite two boys in the entire world. Who are also the sweetest, and most cute, and most adorable as well. They win many awards in my book. Judge for yourself though, I may be a bit biased :)

Typical Thursday night around the Williams' home. Jeremy is on watch and I'm sitting on the couch with Billy, doing a puzzle and watching Bravo. Speaking of Billy, I thought I would finally share a picture of our little boy. I took this one the other day when he was in a particularly smily mood

He is the best. period.

As for Billy's parents, well we are definitely settling into our married life. It's been 75 days since the wedding and it definitely feels normal calling him my husband. Our home feels like home and we are truly happy.

I can't say though that I don't miss life back at home. I miss my friends so much that I can't stand it. I miss my mom and dad and Monogram Ave. I miss having to only drive 15 minutes to see just about anyone that I care about. I miss school and the routine and life as normal. As ridiculously happy as I am to be a married woman, I still miss my old life. But that is only because I haven't found my niche here in Carlsbad. But the thing is I don't want new friends! I don't want to replace the things I had because they are perfect! Only time will tell how everything plays out but for now it seems like I'm driving back home almost every weekend and missing everyone so much.

I'm not saying this to make it seem like I'm not happy with my husband because nothing could be further from the truth. I'm only saying it so that all those people know how loved and missed they are. You all are the best and I love you more than air.

And let's be honest, how could I complain when I have a puppy like Billy?! Here is a shot that Jeremy took of us yesterday. I have the best husband EVER!

As always I trust that God has put us here for his plan and purpose and I will happily ride through this journey with my husband and puppy :)

The Morad Family

Katie Morad, formerly Hardy, has come in and out of my life at poignant and rather odd times. I first met her years ago through her brother Kenny Hardy who was in the same class with me at St. Hedwigs Catholic School. I was only in 6th grade at the time and she was older so we didn't really form a relationship but I knew of her and liked her and her brother a lot.

Fast forward oh, 8 years to Alfred Angelo Bridal, the place of my employment my sophomore year of college. I was a sales girl selling bridal gowns and Katie was a bride in search of her perfect dress. I'll be honest and admit that I HATED selling wedding gowns. I mean it sucked. Brides are in general bitchy and demanding and I hate forcing people into buying anything they aren't in love with. Luckily for me Katie was not like any other bride I had ever helped. She was funny and easy going and seemed strangely familar. We finally realized we were both St. Hedwig alums and a relationship formed. Katie was hands down my favorite bride ever at Alfred Angelo. She ended up with the perfect halter dress with a pink sash around it. See I still remember because I loved her that much.

Fast forward again 3 years to our present day. Thanks to the wonders of facebook I discovered Katie through Kenny and became friends again. Within those past three years Katie has married the love of her life Ryan and gave birth to the second but equal love of her life Giulietta. Ryan and Katie named her Giulietta after a trip to Italy when Katie was pregnant. I love the name and loved that they chose something out of the box and romantic and beautiful.

But that's kinda who these people are- they are just plain wonderful in every way. I went over to their home in Lakewood for the photoshoot last weekend and automatically felt welcomed and comfortable. Katie has a friendly and open personality that just makes you want to love her and I must say Giulietta takes after her momma in that respect. What a precious little girl. She will be turning 1 on October 9th and she is a doll. Beautiful inside and out with a perfect name to match such a perfect little girl.

This session with the Morad family really made me fall in love with children and family portrait photography. There is nothing more important that documenting your child's life in a beautiful and honest way. I hope I accomplished that for you, Katie and Ryan. Thank you again for having faith in me. You have no idea how much it means.

Morad Family Teaser

In general, I hate it when people do teasers. I just feel like if you don't have it all together than you shouldn't post anything. Get it together people! I mean how hard is it to edit pictures from a shoot, huh?

Well call me a monkey's uncle because it is indeed extremely difficult to edit pictures from a shoot. Especially when you take 600. It takes flippin forever. I don't know how these pros do it. I think it must be a ton of outsourcing or something. Regardless I have caved. I apologize dear fellow photographers to ever scoffing at your teasers. I will never do it again. Pinkie swear.

I'll write more about the Morad family on the "official" blog post (ha, that sounds funny) but I just have to say that their daughter Giulietta (awesome name) was just the most adorable little girl on the planet earth. I just had to fill up my entire CF card. I had no other choice, she was that cute.

We have been married for 45 days. I know, what an accomplishment! But SO much has happened in those short 45 days. To review:

1. Went on one amazing honeymoon to Cambria, Big Sur, and Napa- see some of our pictures below

2. Returned home and added a baby to our family within one week! That's right Billy Williams or William Williams formally, is our baby and love of our lives. He is a PERFECT Maltese puppy boy who is very well behaved and doesn't bark or pee and poop all over the house. He's adorable and loves every person and dog he meets. We couldn't have asked for a better addition.

3. Made many additions and improvements to our sweet little rental in Carlsbad. We are looking to buy an investment property by the end of this year and remain here in this townhouse for at least the remainder of Jeremy's service in the Coast Guard. He gets out in 4 years and we aren't sure what the future holds but for now we are happy here. There is plenty of room and its in a wonderful area. We have faith that God will lead us where we need to go but for now we are perfectly content and grateful for the opportunity to live where we live.

4. We bought our first new car! As if a wedding on the 4th of July didn't prove our love for this country we thought a Jeep Patriot would prove that we are indeed Patriots that support and adore America. Sadly, I had to say my goodbye to my loyal and true "boat" aka my Lincoln Town Car. She just wasn't reliable anymore and we couldn't risk the transmission failing on us so away she went. How amazing is my husband for buying me a new car on the one month anniversary of our wedding. I couldn't be more blessed.

5. Finally, that wonderful husband of mine again made me proud by advancing from a third class Operations Specialist to a second class Operations Specialist. He certainly has proven himself to be a dependable, capable and hard working Coast Guardsmen and he rightly deserved this promotion. The occasion was marked by a ceremony on the base during which I was able to pin my husband with his new second class pins. I am so proud to be this man's wife and I love him more than anything or anyone. Here are some pictures of that special day. Jeremy's family came down to celebrate with us!

OS2 Jeremy Robert Williams
